Classes are age appropriate and address developmental stages. Our program starts with God as Creator of all and Jesus as Savior and teacher of our way of life. Through the Loyola series, Christ Our Life, the Bible is presented as God’s living word throughout the curriculum which builds on lessons learned each year. Prayers are assigned for every grade level and memorization is rewarded during the Annual Prayer Challenge in May. Children learn the need for prayer and worship, parts of the Mass, Saints, the Rosary, Sacraments, Apologetics and salvation history. Students in Grades 6-12 are required by Bishop Baker to complete a six week course in Theology of the Body. As Jesus grew in wisdom and grace, His children grow through generous sharing and instruction of volunteer Catechists. Two Catechists are assigned to every class and are required to be certified in Youth Protection 1 through the Diocese of Birmingham in Alabama and participate in online courses for continuing education through the Catechetical Institute. Parish School of Religion classes are held August through May and coincide with a combination of school calendars which allow for holiday breaks. Classes are held on Sunday mornings from 9:30-10:45am. Information is posted on the P.S.R. Bulletin and in the Sunday Bulletin.
Home School Religious Education Material
Parents who provide religious education as part of a Home School curriculum can purchase Diocesan approved material through the Parish School of Religion. Children are encouraged to participate in all Sacrament preparation and are included in parish celebrations.
